I've been meaning to critique this amazing piece of work for an extremely long time, and now I finally have the chance!

First of all, your vision of this piece is extraordinary. The idea that your ideas once put to paper can come to life and evolve is a tantalising and yet quite a real situation for most artists, designers, writers, directors (etc, etc), which you have captured perfectly in this piece. The way in which you drew this so that the images coming away from the drawing look three dimensional exaggerates the idea further, giving the sense that the drawings really are leaping from the page. For this, I could give you no less than five stars.

I have marked you down slightly less for originality, just because I have seen such 'drawing-inside-a-drawing' concepts before. However, I have you given you 3.5 because I haven't seen such a drawing rendered quite so effectively, and the 2D/ 3D spin feels very original and authentic.

This leads on to technique - and this piece really demonstrates your versatility as an artist. There is a vast range of textures and details which makes the objects you have drawn really 'pop' from the page and seem extremely realistic. Your shading is impressive as it describes the shape and form of the hand, and your inclusion of coloured pencil and graphite makes the eye move across the page. Both of which really showcase a confident and effective use of different materials. I have only awarded you 4.5 out of 5 for technique purely due to personal taste, as I would have liked to see more of a contrast of tones (or perhaps a a larger range) just so that certain areas of the page really stand out, particularly the hand.

As I said at the beginning, your piece is almost a physical representation of how ideas come to life and this (with everything else mentioned) caught my eye from the hundreds of deviation stacks in my messages. It had a real impact on myself, and took me away from every day life for a few seconds to really appreciate how the world has been shaped by human imagination. This had a profound impact on me, so therefore had to have 5 starts!

All in all, this is extremely impressive drawing that I can only try to comprehend in it's complexity and consumption of time. I definitely will follow your work closely after seeing this - I am excited to see more from you! <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b…" width="15" height="15" alt=":D" title=":D (Big Grin)"/>
